Employment Contract Preparation

Situation

A technology startup was bringing on its first three employees and was relying on a standard online template. The founders were uncertain whether it addressed stock option arrangements or appropriate restraint of trade provisions for their sector.

What We Did

We reviewed the existing template, identified clauses that were incomplete or missing, and drafted tailored contracts for each role. We also provided brief written guidance on how the restraint provisions worked and their enforceability under Singapore law.

Outcome

All three employees were onboarded with contracts that reflected their actual roles and the company's specific circumstances. The founders had a clearer understanding of what could and could not be enforced should staff depart early.

Situation

An employee in a retail role was dismissed following a disciplinary process she felt had not been conducted fairly. She had received two written warnings over a short period and was uncertain whether the process followed the correct procedures.

What We Did

We reviewed the correspondence and internal documents she provided, assessed the factual position, and helped her prepare a clear account of events for the TADM mediation session. We explained what the mediation process involved and attended with her.

Outcome

The matter was resolved at mediation. A settlement was reached that both parties accepted. The client found the preparation session particularly helpful in enabling her to present her account clearly and without becoming flustered during the process.

Workplace Policy Development

Situation

A private healthcare clinic had grown from four to eighteen staff over two years. Their HR documentation had not kept pace, and the HR manager felt exposed on grievance handling and harassment procedures in particular.

What We Did

We conducted a gap analysis of their existing policy documents, then drafted updated grievance handling, anti-harassment, and performance management policies aligned with Tripartite Advisory Letters. We also ran a two-hour walkthrough with the HR manager and clinic director.

Outcome

The clinic now has a complete and current set of HR policies that have since been issued to all staff via a revised employee handbook. The HR manager noted that the walkthrough gave her confidence in explaining the procedures to staff members who raised questions.
